What we do

Beginning in 2008, we began our mission trips under Fairview Health Services Worldwide Program. We have operated in Bukoba, Tanzania in partnership with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania - Northwest Diocese (ELCTNWD) using their medical facilities to provide much needed health services to the poor.
In 2011, we formed Total Health Africa (THA), to expand and improve our services. Among the problems are: poor maternal and child health services, HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, diabetes mellitus, malaria, physical disabilities, albinism, hypertension and poorly equipped hospitals and clinics, all of which are impacted by poverty.

Our teams have traveled every year since 2009, with at least two nurses and two physicians each time. Our teams travel for two to three-weeks at a time, partnering with local providers, attending to patients and their families, teaching nursing students as we see patients, advising on how to improve hospital and clinic infrastructure, planning future long term projects including continuing medical education (CMEs), and discussing how to make the projects sustainable. We sent a 20-foot container of medical supplies in early 2014, and in late 2014 sent mannequins and other skills lab equipment for the School of Nursing.
We value our relationship with ELCTNWD that has facilities reaching more patients especially in rural areas, but we take care of all patients regardless of religious affiliation.

"I had the humbling experience to be on the Total
Health Africa health team that provided high quality health services to
hundreds of people in a remote area of Bugandika. We were able to do so much with so little in
very challenging circumstances including widespread poverty and scarcity of
resources."
