Ntoma Orphanage in Bukoba, Tanzania
In response to our commitment to partnerships, Total Health Africa continues to explore ways in which we can provide ongoing support to an orphanage established by the ELCT-NWD in Bukoba, Tanzania. Ntoma Orphanage provides excellent care to 30 babies and children up to two years old. Ntoma also accepts preemies, which is rare and a greatly needed service. Many women from this region deliver at home and may lack access to maternal care. If a mother passes away during or shortly after birth, many families are unable to immediately care for the newborn; thus Ntoma Orphanage is critical for the health and safety of these children. Most children are returned to their family/extended family within a period of two years.
Total Health Africa has provided many resources for Ntoma Orphanage based on their requests and needs, including funds for protein-enriched food; a washing machine; repair of buildings; cloth diapers; clothes, toys and more. To feed one preemie for one month costs $200; a 0-6 month baby $150; 7-12 months $60; and 1-2 year old $45. Total Health Africa would like to provide Ntoma Orphanage financial support they can count on from year to year. Any support welcomed!
